Irradiators
MDS Nordion's irradiator products include:

JS-10000 Hanging Tote Irradiator
MDS Nordion's JS-10000 Hanging Tote Irradiator is the workhorse of industrial irradiators. Utilizing gamma sterilization technology, the JS-10000 incorporates state-of-the-art controls technology, precision electronic drives, and a tote design system that maximizes durability and minimizes absorption.
A key feature of the JS-10000 is the Multi-Mode Operation (MMO) which allows operators to easily change between high-volume production runs and high-mix runs with varying dose requirements. Easily handling difficult-to-dose products, the JS-10000 integrates Programmable Logic Control (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) to provide real-time system and component status.
Ideal for high-volume throughput and easily scalable, the JS-10000 allows medical device manufacturers and gamma sterilization service providers to treat a diversity of products at maximum cost-effectiveness and with rapid turnaround.
Key features include:
- Electric drives
- Optional multi-mode operation
- Optional large storage configuration
- Utilizes MDS Nordion's industry standard-setting C-188 cobalt-60 sources

Pallet Irradiator
MDS Nordion's Pallet Irradiator reduces product handling requirements by treating goods in their standard, transport ready packaging. Fully automated and simple to operate, the Pallet Irradiator features a two-level source pass configuration which maximizes efficiency while ensuring dose uniformity.
The Pallet Irradiator incorporates an optional incremental dose system which enables uninterrupted processing of diverse products. The multi-source design option also allows for low-dose applications, raising just a single source rack out of the pool at a time.
Key features include:
- Fully automated to allow for minimal attendance during operation
- External electric drives
- Utilizes MDS Nordion's industry standard-setting C-188 cobalt-60 sources

Gammabeam - 127
The Gammabeam 127 (GB-127) is classified as a Category II panoramic dry-storage irradiator. This cobalt-60 irradiator has been designed for economical irradiation of small product batches. It is well suited for small medical product batches, food testing, and pilot scale irradiations, which do not require high dose rates and throughputs of a full scale medical irradiator.
The GB-127 features a ring of product turntables, which surround the cobalt-60 source. The radius of the ring is adjustable so that the dose rates, irradiation time and product batch volume can be varied to a great extent. The configuration can facilitate the simultaneous irradiation of stacks of various density products because the product stacks on the turntables do not shield each other at any time. The rotation of the turntables ensures good dose uniformity ration (DUR) for all product densities.
The GB-127 source capacity is 60,000 curies of cobalt-60 and is delivered in a self-shielded F-127 transport package. The package serves as the source storage container to shield the source when the irradiator is not operating.
When the source is raised from the storage container, personnel are protected by the enclosed biological shield of thick concrete and the safety interlock system.
Minimal service equipment and electrical power are required for product processing.
