About MDS Nordion

Community      Sponsorship

At MDS Nordion we are committed to our communities. Our sponsorships are making a difference in the lives of people and families.

Bench to Bedside

MDS Nordion recognizes the significant value molecular imaging plays in the future of our global health care. A rapidly growing and essential tool, molecular imaging offers the highest standard of medical care helping physicians provide patients with an earlier, more accurate diagnosis and safer, more effective treatments. This includes special medical scans and state-of-the-art technology like PET/CT* scans and SPECT/CT* scans.

To help increase awareness and demonstrate our commitment to the advances in quality medical care, MDS Nordion is a sponsor of the Society of Nuclear Medicine Bench to Bedside Molecular Imaging Campaign, an effort to translate molecular imaging into clinical practice. The financial goal is to raise $5 million over a five-year period.

Our support will assist in the four specific areas of need including: supporting advocacy for molecular imaging; educating and promoting collaboration with referring physicians and patient groups; training and educating the current imaging workforce and future generations of practitioners on the applications of molecular imaging; and supporting innovations in translational research-the research that "translates" an innovation from basic science into practice-from bench to bedside.

*Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT/CT) are imaging techniques.

Ottawa Race Weekend - Run, Walk, Volunteer

Every year in May, thousands of people take part in the premier sporting and fundraising event in the Nation's Capital - the Ottawa Race Weekend. The Ottawa Race Weekend fundraises in support of cancer care at The Ottawa Hospital.

Whether you're an elite athlete or inspired amateur, everyone has the opportunity to pursue a personal best at the MDS Nordion 10K and 5K events. The MDS Nordion 10K Run is ranked by top runners as one of the most important races in Canada. Participation of international caliber athletes, like Uta Pippig, a three-time winner of the Boston Marathon, makes the MDS Nordion 10K a hotly contested race. And, the MDS Nordion 5K Run/Walk provides an opportunity for everyone to get out and get involved.

MDS Nordion employees take part in the MDS Nordion 10K and 5K as runners or walkers, pledge collectors, organizers, and volunteers. To get involved, visit The Ottawa Race Weekend.

The Ottawa Hospital Gala

The Ottawa Hospital Gala, presented by MDS Nordion, is an annual black-tie event to raise funds for the research arm of the hospital, the Ottawa Health Research Institute (OHRI).

Since its inception, attendees and community supporters have helped raise more than $700,000 in support of critical research activities including cancer and neuroscience.

Each year the event recognizes the achievements of three prominent researchers who are making a difference in global health care. We commend the 2008 winners, Drs. Antoine Hakim and Dean Fergussson, as well as talented PhD student Caroline Breitbach, for their contribution and dedication to health research.

“As a world leader in global-life sciences, MDS Nordion is honoured to support and recognize ground-breaking research and innovative advances in science,” says Steve West, President of MDS Nordion. “The tremendous work that has been done by these talented individuals is helping to change the way the world approaches modern medicine.”
