The Ottawa Hospital
With its 1,130 beds, The Ottawa Hospital is one of the largest teaching hospitals and leading research facilities in Canada. It provides comprehensive, high-quality, patient-focused health care services to over 1.5 million residents of Eastern Ontario.
- Ride the Rideau - MDS Nordion is excited to be the title sponsor for the inaugural 2010 Ride the Rideau event benefiting cancer research at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Funds raised through this 100 km road bike tour, which follows the scenic Rideau River from Ottawa to Merrickville-Wolford, will help build the new Centre for Innovative Cancer Research and support crucial local research projects that could impact cancer care around the world.
- Gala for Research - MDS Nordion is the proud sponsor of the Gala for Research, an annual black-tie event to recognize and support the outstanding projects being carried out at the Ottawa Health Research Institute (OHRI), the research arm of The Ottawa Hospital. This event attracts more than 500 of Ottawa's business and community leaders.
- Run for a Reason - MDS Nordion is proud supporter of The Ottawa Hospital’s Run for a Reason Challenge, as part of the Ottawa Race Weekend. Our employees make significant contributions to this event by running, walking, volunteering and fundraising in support the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre. In 2009, Run for a Reason raised more than $900,700 — an all-time record. The goal for 2010 is $1 million.
- The 20/20 Campaign - MDS Nordion was a proud supporter of the Ottawa Hospital’s 20/20 - $20 million in 20 months - Campaign, to raise funds for the new Cancer Centre. During an event held February 26, 2010 at the new Centre, the Foundation announced more than $24.5 million had been raised – the largest campaign in its history. The success of this campaign has enabled The Ottawa Hospital to add nine new radiation machines, an additional 15 new chemotherapy chairs, and new patient and family support services to help during recovery.

University of Ottawa Heart Institute
The University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) is Canada's largest and foremost cardiovascular health centre dedicated to understanding, treating, and preventing heart disease.
- UOHI Telethon. Each year MDS Nordion participates in the annual UOHI Telethon. This major fundraising event enables the Heart Institute to raise much needed funds for prevention, research, equipment and beds, and public education programs, as well as to achieve advances in patient cardiac care. At the 2008 event, MDS Nordion was honored for its contribution of $100,000 toward the over $5.5 million that the telethon raised. MDS Nordion also took part in a segment called "Making the Invisible Visible: Getting New Images of Heart Disease." This segment focused on the application of molecular imaging for cardiac physicians and patients and collaborative partnerships for innovation and success.
- Molecular Imaging Centre of Excellence. UOHI and MDS Nordion announced their partnership in June 2007 for the establishment of the Molecular Imaging Centre of Excellence to advance cardiology research. MDS Nordion has invested an estimated $2.2 million in the centre, which is equipped with the research and development radiochemistry laboratory that supports cardiology research. Under the guidance of Dr. Terry Ruddy, Chief of Cardiology at the UOHI, this state-of-the-art facility will attract some of the world's brightest researchers to combat heart disease. The centre aims to improve cardiology research by using molecular imaging technology, which looks at the physiology and cellular activity of the body rather than simply the anatomical structure.
